Most heart attacks are caused by a blood clot that blocks one of the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries bring blood and oxygen to the heart. If the flow of blood is not restored quickly, the section of heart muscle becomes damaged from lack of oxygen and begins to die, the heart starves for oxygen and ultimately heart stops to work.
