Quetta is a district in the
north-west of Baluchistan province of Pakistan with a population estimation of
about 25 lacks. The ancient name of Quetta is shalkot. It is a cup shape valley
which consists of beautiful mountains like zarghoon or sleeping beauty towards
the north, chars shakhan towards the east and chiltan towards the west of the
city. In past Quetta city is to be known as a little Paris but unfortunately
this little Paris would lose its beauty due to the earthquake of 1935, in this
earthquake much of the areas will be replenished. All areas of city will be
rehabilitate after that earthquake but it was not as much attractive as it was
in past. With every passing day the population of Quetta city is increased which
sounds alarm, with this increasing rate of population the city face a lot of
major problems like water scarcity, poor sanitary system, shortage of health
centers , food, electricity, education and many other things.
Air, water and soil are necessary for the survival of living beings. Due to
rapid growth of technology, industrial production or with population explosion,
there is an increase in environmental pollution. Pollution poses a serious
threat to marine, animal and human life. It is one of the serious problems
facing humanity today, so the main cause of pollution in Quetta city is the huge
pool of traffic running on roads like rickshaw, buses, automobiles, trawlers,
tankers tractors etc.
Pollution rate is increase day by day because of unawareness, most of the people
that live in slum areas or in tents can dump household waste into their nearby
open places and burn it without a thought that how harmful it would be for their
health as well as for others people and can create air pollution. People can
throw plastic bags, plastic spoons and tin cans into the water body which may
blocked the city sewage lines badly through this reason a large quantity of
dirty water will flown out in to the roads which damages the beauty of an area
as well as the major cause to develop different diseases. In past there is a lot
of greenery (trees) in Quetta city along road side and near homes but
unfortunately it can be dried or cut off because no one is there to take care of
it the number of trees is decreased very fastly as it was not planted, our trees
can act as a buffer zone they are good sound absorber and also absorbs
pollution.
In short this problem is complicated as it is serious, it is complicated because
much of the pollution is caused by those thing that benefit people for example
factories discharge material that pollute air and water but on other hand it
provide job for people. Scientists and engineers can work to find ways to reduce
the amount of pollution. It should be a responsibility of government to pass and
enforce laws to stop or find ways to cut down the polluting activities and also
government should awaken the people and involve them in creating and maintain
clean environment. When environment is clean every person should spend a healthy
life.
