Tradition of Feminism in Urdu Literature

Early trends of feminism in Urdu literature are seeen in the creative poetry of Mah Laqa Bai Chanda (1768-1824). The influence of Siraj Allahabadi is found in her poetry .Her Diwan "Gulzar-e-Mahlaqa "was published after her death.After her deathher voice became a dominant force in the creative work of women all over the subcontinent .Women got inspiration from her poetry .It is quite visible that during continuous process of history feminism in Urdu literature remained popular.It can be seen in the literary work of women during the last two centuries.During the colonial rule in subcontinent women worked hard for struggle of independence .Women wanted to achieve equality in all the fields of life .It is said that women have different approach to social life .Their views and ideas are considered very important in literary creative work.In Urdu literature feminiosm is considered as a strong opinion of women which always supports the fundamental rights and equality of women in the male-dominated society.

During the nineteenth century the wave of feminism was observed in subcontinent .Feminist literary work developed and it was appreciated by the readers . During the twentieth century the women of subcontinent were very active in compaigning for their rights . Their efforts were fruitful and women gained their significant rights.The creative work of women in Urdu language was appreciated all over the world.

In Urdu literature women writers worked hard for promotion of freedom of thought and exression.Women writers hated every kind of discrimination based on gender .They strongly advocated women,s rights .Their literary work is considered a ray of hope for poor ,helpless and oppressed people of the society.The revolution of 1947 brought a positive awareness in the society .Women were impressed by social and ideological changes which took place during the struggle for independence.After independence women have addressed global issues very effectively.In Urdu literature women have always focused on promotion of women,s rights and humanity.Urdu literature is proud of great achevemens of women in the field of litrature.Women are keen to gain equal rights and opportunities for them in all the fields of life .This desire which is very relevent and important is reflected in their creative writings .In this article a brief analysis of tradition of feminism in Urdu literature is presented . This emphasis on important feminine writings in Urdu literature of subcontinent .In Urdu literature feminism has brought a positive awareness among the people . .
