India in an Ambiguous Quagmire

(Abdul Rehman Meer, Islamabad)

The history of the subcontinent absorbs some mysteries and true stories in its background. This part of the world has gone through a constant British rule for a long decade. Soon after the struggle and thousands of sacrifices this part of the world got freedom from the British rulers. Thousands of lives were killed on the 0 land of subcontinent. Both Muslims and Hindus were severely tortured and then killed ruthlessly. 4The elders who had seen the barbarism still talk about the brutal behaviour of the British empires and tremble in fear.

The people of India and Pakistan have come out of a widespread cultural cauldron. The ruling class of the two countries is culturally and intellectually parallel. Both people have lived through the same civilization and historical processes from the 9th to the middle of the 20th century. Both have lived from side to side hundreds of years of authoritarian empires and, more recently, colonial rule that they demolished by a common venture. Democracy was alien to the recent culture and civilisation of this sub-continent on both sides of the Indo-Pak border.

After the termination of the British Raj in 1947, two new sovereign nations were formed, the Union of India and the Dominion of Pakistan. The ensuing partition of the former British India displaced up to 12.5 million people, with estimates of loss of lives unreliable from several hundred thousand to a million. India emerged as a secular nation with a Hindu majority population and a large Muslim minority while Pakistan was recognized as an Islamic republic with an overwhelming Muslim majority population.

Soon after their independence, India and Pakistan established diplomatic relations but the aggressive partition and frequent territorial disputes would overshadow their relationship. Since their independence, the two countries have fought three major wars, one undeclared war and have been mixed up in numerous armed skirmishes and military standoffs. The Kashmir dispute is the main centre-point of all of these conflicts with the exception of the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, which resulted in the secession of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).

The 2008 Mumbai incident, attacked by ten Pakistani terrorists killed over 173 and injured 308. The only surviving gunman Ajmal Kasab who was arrested from Nepal’s border area was found to be a so-called Pakistani national. In May 2010, an Indian court convicted him on four counts of murder, waging war against India, conspiracy and terrorism offences, and sentenced him to death. India blamed the Lashkar-e-Taiba, for planning and executing the attacks. Islamabad resisted the claims and demanded evidence. India provided evidence in the form of interrogations, weapons, candy wrappers, Pakistani Brand Milk Packets, and telephone sets etc. Indian officials demanded Pakistan extradite suspects for trial. They also said that, given the sophistication of the attacks, the perpetrators "must have had the support of some official agencies in Pakistan.

Recently a new melodrama has been revealed that an Indian officer Sateesh Warma declared that the Mumbai attack was planned by their government to blame Pakistan. This news is now flying everywhere but neither of the Pakistani political leaders seem vigilant to find out the reason that why India changed her statement and accusation against Pakistan. The public is now shock after the Indian reality. An ambiguous question arises here is that why India blamed on Pakistan of planning Mumbai attacks and why it has taken back their given blames. Did India foresee any Pandora’s Box to be opened itself or it is her game to make Pakistan further ignorant? A comic situation has been created by the Indian officer to the Pakistani leadership by confirming the Mumbai attack. Pakistani political leaders seem negligent and illegible in front of India’s craven nature and timid behaviour.

Ajmal Kasab a teenager and Afzal Guru a Kashmiri citizen were executed after Indian court’s hearing. Even Indian human rights organization had forbidden India not to execute Afzal Guru as he was not linked with Mumbai attack. Now how India will give justice to the families of the two so-called terrorists Kasab and Guru? When the so-called Mumbai attack was under discussed on the widespread screen then almost all the anchors were taunting the state. The nation was feeling ashamed of our own white elephants but when the reality is revealed; where have they gone? Why aren’t they speaking now? Have they forgotten the execution of Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru? In fact, they are shameless people who don’t honor the nation and speak bitterly about the country.

India has always been violent with Kashmir and Pakistan. Even Kashmiris are willing to join Pakistan. Freedom movement was established solely to get rid of India but India paid no heed to any of their efforts. Thousands of Kashmiris have been killed including men, women, children and old people by Indian aggressive army in Kashmir. If we see the fact then most of the disputed area’s people are with Pakistan like Gilgit Baltistan is an open example. The people of Gilgit Baltistan got freedom from Dogra rule in 1948; after the independence of Pakistan and willingly amalgamated with Pakistan.

No doubt Pakistan was established on the basis of the first principal of Islam. When the blissful Ramazan revealed, Allah made the Indian propaganda clear by her own officer. So-called investigations were formed in the past to probe the Mumbai attack. A Pakistani motor cycle engine was used in the Mumbai attack. India traditionally blamed Pakistan of Mumbai drama. When India sought information about the involvement of Pakistani motor cycle engine then the Ex-interior minister Rehman Malik gave cheap information just to get rid of the situation. Isn’t it the case? If it is not the case then why the scene is different? Pakistan was not involved in any Mumbai attack. Our TV anchors left no stone unturned to harass the nation. They approached Ajmal Kasab’s so-called home town and asked the people to give information about him. Nobody knew any Ajmal Kasab there. It was just Indian propaganda. Today Ajmal Kasab is no more in this world then who are responsible for his death sentence? No matter whomever they were and wherever they belong but those who spoke in favor of India’s propaganda are equally responsible for Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru’s death. Today where is United Nations? Why UN is not taking any interest in this biggest issue between Pakistan and India?
