Biography of Abdul Qadeer Khan

(Zain ul abedin, Karachi)

Abdul Qadeer Khan was born in 1936 at Bhopal, India. He immigrated with his family to Pakistan in 1947. After studying at St.Anthony's High School, Khan joined the D.J Science College at Karachi; where he took physics and mathematics. He got a B.Sc Degree in physical metallurgy at the University of Karachi in 1960.

Then he accepted a job as an inspector of weight and measure in Karachi after graduation. Later, he resigned and went to Netherlands for work in 1970. Khan gained fame as a talented scientist at the nuclear plant he worked in.

In December 1974, he come back to Pakistan and tried to convince Bhutto to adopt his uranium route rather than plutonium rout in building nuclear weapon. After his role in Pakistan's nuclear program, he reorganized the Pakistan's National Space Agency ( S.U.A.R.C.O ).

Khan was also a key figure in the establishment of several Engineering Universities in Pakistan. He set up metallurgy and material science institute in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Science and Technology. the place, where khan served as both executive member and director, ha named as Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science. another school, Dr.Abdul Qadeer Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at Karachi University; has also been named in his honor. Khan played a vital role in bringing metallurgical engineering course in various universities of Pakistan.
He got a tittle of Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1996, Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 1998 and in 1999 for his honorable work.
