HOW IT FEELS BEING A "LAILA"

 If you have someone in your family named Laila or if you are named Laila then you are at the right place right now to read this.

Many people have controversial and rare names like Benazir,Shahrukh,Musharraf,Sheereen etc.People with such names suffer so much fun made of themselves.They are kind of a laughing stock for their name.It depends upon the name that how would you be treated by people.

Being a LAILA never bothered me because when you are named on a worldwide famous lover then obviously you would be used to having people astonished when they listen your name.People making fun of my name never bothered or annoyed me as I have been experiencing it since I was a kid.It is however funny that I always particpate with people in making fun of my own name.

The reaction of people when they first hear my name is as follows:
*They start singing 'laila main laila'
*They start singing 'main laila laila chillaunga'
*They ask where my 'majnu' is
*They start discussing majnu topics continuosly.
But I repeat it does not annoy me,I laugh with them and answer their 'majnu questions' as sarcastically as I can.People find my name funny and so do I.
In school all the mates just used to react in the same way,even the teachers smile when they discover my name and I enjoy these situations in every possible way.But sometimes some situations become awkward and odd to handle.Say when my textbooks possess my name or a topic having my name is being discussed in the class ,all the people over there start staring at me,laughing and hooting and i am there like i have no idea what is going on.I remember one of the awkward moments when my Urdu teacher started discussing a Ghazal of which one stanza was about the love story of 'Laila and Majnu' and hearing my name again and again in that field of love made me go red because it is kind of awkward.You cannot even see right in the eyes of your teacher during this.You just let your head down pretending as if you are not affected by this discussion.Secondly teachers talk about how Laila was brown and Majnu was white,It is the most awkward situation i have ever suffered.There used to be an English sir who once even started a long-term poetry on Laila after discovering my name.

The another awkward feeling is when you are watching TV with your family and a song suddenly comes on based on your name or the news channels use your name in relative news.This case is surely annoying for me as I don't know how to react on my parents' reaction.This all happens atleast 300 times a year to me.Only 65 days i can breathe freely without anyone discussing my name.

Laila is such an old love story character nonetheless most of the bollywood songs are including 'Laila' in an explicit way and it annoys me if my parents or my relatives listen to it.This is the only time I feel shame having such name.

While i have so many situations to be angry at,I also have merits of being Laila.Say my name has been gaining popularity for so long and teachers and other people easily remember my name,I do not need to remind them my name the second time because of the rareness of my name.

Atlast I enjoy being Laila although i have so much to suffer unlike a normal being but my name has its own charms and i love it still.
