Keeping Boredom At Bay

The boredom we all go through sometimes is one of the most uncomfortable emotions.  Boredom accompanies a profound dissatisfaction in life. The bored person loses interest in everything and anything around him/her.  It is no fun being around a bored person because he or she is boring. Boredom makes life miserable. It drains away any joy or happiness in a person. However, it is important to note that boredom is a choice. You can choose to overcome boredom before it overcomes you. If boredom overcomes you, you will start feeling stressed out, fatigued, miserable and burned out.  When you are bored, you don’t have any stimulation to do anything. You feel socially awkward and don’t want to do anything. Idleness a cause People get bored for various reasons. You may start getting bored when you lose interest in something. Think about a meeting that is addressing issues that do not interest you. Or a lecture that is not interesting to you. This can make you get bored.  Idleness can cause boredom. When you just sit around with nothing to do, you are likely to get bored. That is why it is important to do something productive with yourself. When you are busy doing constructive things with your life, it is hard to get bored. Doing constructive things will give you joy and satisfaction. Performing monotonous tasks can bring about boredom. Try to be creative to add more favor to your daily chores. If cooking bores you, try new recipes instead of using the same old ones you got from your great grandmother.

If it is about wearing the same uniform to work, try a different design while maintaining the same dress code. If you are bored of teaching, try different teaching methods — be creative.  If it is about babysitting, try playing different games with the baby or take the baby out for a walk. Life can be interesting and exciting. Involve yourself in different weekend or holiday activities that enrich your life. Some personalities are prone to boredom. If you are an extrovert, you are likely to get bored if you don’t have people to interact with. Basically, you gain a lot of energy when you are socializing with people. If you are in a situation where you can’t socialize, you can stay connected with people by talking to them on the phone and emailing them.  Try reading an interesting book or watching an interesting TV program. Visit social places and keep in touch with friends and family. However, make sure your effort to reach out to other people adds more value to your life. You can choose not to get bored. Therefore, stop blaming the traffic, your marriage or your job. Instead of focusing too much on the problem, focus more on what you can do to kick boredom out of your life. Even in that traffic jam, you can tune into your favorite radio station or listen to your favorite music. If you are riding public transport, you can get your attention off the jam by reading a newspaper or a novel.  Outdoor activities  Plan for a family get away vacation, a dinner out or do something fun together, even if it is fixing a broken fence or tending a flowerbed.  Try watching an interesting movie together. Work on your communication skills and become each other’s best friend.

It is important to do some exercise when you start feeling bored. This will help to stimulate your body and your mind as well. You can take a walk, swim or play any other favorite game.  Out door activities help to get rid of boredom. You can visit the museum, zoo or park or simply walk around as you enjoy the beauty of nature.  You can read your favorite book or magazine. This will help to keep your mind occupied with positive things. Try listening to music. This helps to eliminate boredom. Music is therapeutic too. It soothes the soul and mind.
