Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah a Role Model For Emerging Leaders

(Zainab Taqvi, Karachi)

Few individuals significally alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world.Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation state. Muhammad Ali Jinnah did all three.-Prof Stanley Wolpret(1984).

Leadership is organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal. Jinnah was a lawyer, a great politician and the founder of the Pakistan. Jinnah is revered as “Father of the nation”. Jinnah was such a man who could alter the history of the nation.

Jinnah was a most revered leader of the subcontinent, a man having a strong moral character unmatched by any contemporary leaders of those days.He was a man of principle and a man of impeccable integrity in which he never compromised. He is a role model for those who believe that in a muslim nation personal character of leadership is as important as other inheret necessary qualities which get radiated to inspire people at large.

Fatima Jinnah wrote in the biography,
“Mr.Jinnah was great as a lawyer , once great as a Congressman , great as the leader of Muslims, great as a world politician and diplomat and greatest of all as a man of action . By Mr.Jinnah’s assing away the world has lost one of the greatest statesmen and Pakisatn its life giver , philisopher and guide.”-Surat Chandra Bose

Jinnah is a constant source of inspiration for all those who are fighting against racial or group discrimination. It is strange and beyond understanding that most subsequent political leaders in Pakistan instead of being admired by the most successful and adored, incruptible and brave personality of Jinnah never tire of eulogizing services and examples of foreign leaders many of whom considered personal conduct not a matter of public scrutiny.
Jinnah always took firm stand on principles ,remained adamant in face of unruly opponents and ported a strong sense of self respect .Even with colonial masters of the day he would neither put up with improper behavior nor would tolerate a slight. Jinnah was prompt carrying his sense of self respect everywhere dealing with Indian leaders of those days including those belonging to Indian Congress. He never allowed himself to be brow beaten and was endowed with an impressive personality by nature and top of it he would dress himself immaculately and maintain a posture and facial expression which commanded from all who were in company.

“There is no man or woman who imputes anything against his honour or his honesty . He was the most upright person that I know but throughout it all he never as far as I know for one moment attempted to deceive anybody as to what he was aiming at or as to the means he attempted to adopt to get it.” –Sir Patrick Spen.

What makes Jinnah so remarkable is the fact that while similar other leaders assumed the leadership of traditionally well defined nations. Jinnah had provided political leadership to the Indian Muslims initially as one of the leaders but later since 1947 as the only prominent leader .Jinnah served as the leader of All India Muslim League from 1913 till the independence of Pakistan in 1947 and then served as the first governor general of Pakistan.

The ultimate death of the Quaid left a newly formed country completely vulnerable to internal and external pressures and propaganda. The nation Quaid e Azam envisioned was never realized as those who ran the affairs of the state after their demise digressed completely from the path laid down by Quaid himself. The corrupt politicians , bureaucrats and army generals are more interested to lookafter their personal gains than to build a nation along the lines prescribed by the founder , the father of the nation.

It is known that after the creation of Pakistan, the newly born state faced too many problems and had to pass through the difficult times , the financial problems, unfair boundary distribution, martyrdom of Muslim refugees in India, unfair division of military assets the power generation problems and e.t.c
Millions of refugees migrated to Pakistan from India and there were shift camps set for them. There was big camp setup at Walton Lahore . Having been subjected to worst atrocities and the refugees were in miserable conditions mentally and physically . On the other hand there was shortage of resources. Quaid e Azam came to Walton to meet these homeless citizens of the new state. He felt disturbed and was deeply moved .He extolled their sacrifices. His said that let us resolve to work had jointly to solve all the problems and build a prosper Pakistan.
He motivated hope in them. It is a matter of record how all the refugees were settled This is the sort of politics we need, learning from this leadership should take place into confidence, show commitment and work honestly, sincerely, selflessly and for the betterment and welfare of the people and for the prosperity and development of the nation
Quaid’s sayings, speeches, and actions should be studied to create a proper political and leadership culture worthy of a democratic welfare state. Only then we shall be able to guard our national sovereignty with honour and pride and shall be able to face the challenges of the world.
Quaid e Azam said:
“Come forward as servants of Islam, organize the people economically , socially , educationally and politically and I am sure that you will be a power that will be accepted by everybody.”
Let’s be the beacon to show the light, let’s be the hope of our motherland , let’s make a developed Pakistan. Let’s be the hope for the Quaid’s dreams.
