Brain Drain

Muzammil Ch.

The term ‘brain drain’ refers to the emigration of highly educated, highly professional skilled and technical manpower from the undeveloped to the developed countries. This phenomenon, in the terminology of development economics, refers to the loss of high quality manpower. It is particularly true in the case of doctors, engineers, scientists, business students and professionals, thousands of individuals get knowledge in their country but they shift in developed countries because of some reasons. Pakistan is a country awarded with talented individuals which better in various walks of life both nationally and internationally. The trend of moving abroad in search of a better life has increased sharply among Pakistani professionals in the last few decades. However, due to a mixture of reasons, a lot of these talented individuals have become despairing with the current affairs of Pakistan. Thousands of professionals have already migrated to out of country for better facilities and a large number of professional who are still here are planning to do the same. The only justification they give in this connection is that they need a reward for their capabilities in terms of recognition and a good income, which they find hard to get in their own country. The effects of brain drain are very harmful. The broadly construed brain drain has not only reduced the supply of Crucial persons but has also diverted the attention of those who stay in their native lands from important local problems and goals. In low income courtiers, political instability, civil unrest, insecurity, paltry social services and lack of educational opportunities for children, low salary, work overload, disagreeable working conditions and lack of facilities of professional development are leading causes of Brain Drain in Pakistan. According to Muzammil Hanif, many engineers, doctors, businessmen and other professional persons want to return Pakistan but cannot find suitable jobs and attractive salary packages in their home land.
