Life is not as easy as most
people say it is, in order for you to understand/live life in a nice fulfilling
way you have to take some time off and be by your own, no disturbance by your
side. Even your career choice will not be bad at all.
In our society people tend to stick to the tried and tested ways. This is why
till this day, majority of the kids are pushed to either become engineers or
doctors. Those who are not interested or cannot make it are told that they will
have to go for careers that will have hardly any growth and would limit them to
a life mediocrity. This along with many such notions is greatly flawed. In the
recent years things have changed significantly and new career options have
become available. These careers are innovative and provide long term jobs that
pay well and open up a different market altogether for a person.
Positive and proactive future for Pakistan was possible by helping Pakistani
students make more informed and better educational and career choices.
Career: This is the totality of work one does in lies life time and person’s
center life.
Career Choices is an interdisciplinary curriculum that engages students and
teachers in an interactive learning process, helping them develop the knowledge,
skills, and attitudes needed to successfully examine their own lives, explore
and evaluate a wide range of education and career options, and make reasoned and
researched goals for their future.
Which college degree program to choose after passing out higher secondary school
is very critical question for every student? One should pay special care and
attention while looking for a higher degree course program to make one's career
prospects bright.In general, before getting into any higher degree course
students have almost no-idea about the job prospects of the degree program that
they have chosen.
They are confused about which career path to take. They are unsure of which
educational program will match to your personality and career goals. They are
not clear how to make a rational career decision about your career and education
and they are also not sure which career path will take you to a satisfying and
rewarding career. So, it is very important to understand the job and career
scope of the degree programs for higher education before getting into the
course.

Therefore, it is very important to select the career in the field of your
interest. A developing country, Pakistan, offers numerous career options in
different fields. One can find excellent career opportunities in different
fields including air force, medical field, advertising, engineering, foreign
languages, biotechnology, travel and tourism, Army and Merchant Navy, journalism
and mass communications, civil services, insurance, banking, dairy technology,
medical transcription, KPOs, teaching, veterinary science, law, agriculture
science and accounting etc. One can get bachelors and master's degree in the
respective courses also such as Masters in Business Management. There are many
universities in Pakistan and across the globe providing career options in
different fields.
The education that you have chosen plays a major role in the decision of the
occupation that you finally choose. There are some people who think that they
have made the wrong decision to join a particular college only after they join
and it becomes difficult to reverse the decision. If you are interested in
medical and health related work, then you should try to join a medical school
and not an engineering college. This is one of the primary things that you have
to do.
The students have a number of career choices and it becomes difficult for them
to choose a particular career when they are unsure. The decision process
involves a number of factors that include personal interest, peer pressure,
self-motivation, financial reasons, better quality of life, etc.
The attitude of our society is
such that a majority of parents wish their children to become either doctors or
engineers. The status of a doctor in a society, because of Medicine being a
noble profession, encourages parents to persuade their children to become
doctors from the very early years. Parents' wishes are a key motivation factor
for students entering into any profession.
Parents should support their child and help them to make successful career
choices. They should discuss types of jobs that might be relevant to their
interests, skills or aspirations. The most valuable things parents can do to
help their child with career planning are
• be open to ideas and encourage them to explore all their options
• keep in mind that your child’s choices and decisions should be based on their
aspirations and abilities and not on what you think they should do
Once your child has some ideas about what they would like to do, encourage them
to look into what they need to do to get there.
Parents will also be helping them to develop the decision-making skills
important in adult life. They will need to weigh up the pros and cons of various
options, make a decision based on the information available - then put their
plan into action.
“A number of factors influence us in our gust for career, especially our dream
careers”. These number of factors could be intrinsic (these coming from within
us) or extrinsic (those coming from outside, our external environment).There are
many things to take into account when choosing a career, such as your
personality, skills, values constraints, opportunities and ambitions. The most
important question is you should enjoy it.
Familiarity with a career doesn't automatically make it a good profession for
you. Picking the right field will make landing a dream job after school a
reality.
According to one guidance counselor, “The key word would be explored. Explore
every option - don’t limit yourself. Think that you can do whatever you want to
do. Don’t sell yourself short. Think globally.” Choosing a career can be
complicated because of today’s rapidly changing world. It takes more than hard
work and a little luck to find employment that can provide an adequate income
and lifestyle.
At the end I will say that we should encourage our students to choose the fields
in which they are more interested. A critical review by the policy makers is
required to strengthen the fields that are being overlooked by the students and
take appropriate steps to motivate students to join those fields.
