Need of more hostels in punjab university

Established in 1882, the
University of the Punjab is the largest and oldest University of Pakistan,
providing standard education and several facilities to students which include
health, hostel, transport, library, sports and various others.
Over 30,000 students are enrolled in PU and the number is continuously
increasing per year because of its valuable educational services as well as
introduction of new fields of study and programs to meet the modern day’s
demands. To fulfill the accommodation need, PU is providing hostel facility to
its students. At present PU has 26 hostels, 15 for boys and 11 for girls. The
residential accommodation in each of these hostels comprises of cubicles and
three-seat dormitories but due to increase in student’s strength, four students
are allotted a dormitory. Currently, out of total enrolled students, around 8000
students are provided hostel facility. Still there is a huge number of students
who can not avail this facility due to lack of space in hostels, students living
in flats or getting adjusted in PU hostels illegally. Therefore it is important
to construct more hostels to avoid accommodation problems as well as for
controlling illegal adjustments. I would like to bring to the notice of Vice
Chancellor and PU administration that to meet the growing need of accommodation
for students, initiative steps should be taken for the construction of new
hostels because it is very important for the students and very much need of
students to continue the further studies. Mostly in this situation girls face
many problem like they don’t continue their studies and parents don’t want to
send them in private hostels. Private hostels have no much rules and regulation
and no security so mostly parents don’t want to send their girls for education
in universities. Lack of hostels in Punjab university is a big issue in Pakistan
because it is the biggest university in Pakistan and whole Pakistani students
come to study here. The shortage of hostels is bad impact of university.
Students want to study, but the lack of resources is big issue among the
students. Some people use the unfair resources to admit their children in
hostels, but mostly students have to face the problems. Boys live in hostels in
a illegal way. If the P U administration construct more hostels then situation
will be changed and no need to use illegal adjustment to students in hostels and
have more chances for the students to get good education and live the hostels in
safe way. The students who far away from Lahore they need the hostels and if the
hostels smaller a number and no more space then they will go back and their
dream will not come to be true to study in Punjab university. I t is the
government university and mostly people prefer it for study because its degree
value is more than private universities. This university has no much more fesses
so a middle class family afford it and prefer it for study. We request to the
vice chancellor to construct more hostels because it is very much need of the
students.
