Homes With Amazing Secret Passageways

(Source: amazingbeautifulworld)

It doesn’t matter how old you get; you never outgrow wanting to have a secret passageway or hidden room in your house. Though most of us never get to realize those dreams, these houses are proof that some do - though in the case of H.H. Holmes, some people’s dreams are the nightmares of others.

The Stone Door

This one is probably the best because it’s literally invisible. One of those rocks likely opens the door but the door’s crease is so seamless that you’d never try to find it unless you knew it was there. Bravo, designer.

Hidden Children’s Play Room

Probably not the safest place for kids to be hanging out, but by far the coolest. This is straight out of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” which I hear they adapted into a book!

The Hidden Safe

Even if you figure out where the secret door is you still have to find a way to crack the massive safe. And if you figure THAT out you get the warm greeting of a rack full of guns. I’d say on this one it’s best to just stay away.

The Mirror Door

Want a really easy way to scare the heck out of people? When they’re looking at themselves in this mirror walk through it super casually. This works best at night but during the day it’ll do some lifelong psychological damage as well.

Movable Shelf

This shelf opens up into a big room behind it. What’s cool about this one is it’s a massive shelf, but since it’s raised off the ground it’s not impossible to move. That’s really some incredible engineering.

Hidden Room Behind Boookcase

That is a MASSIVE room. Like someone looking at the house from the outside would definitely be able to figure out there was a room there. But then again, would they be able to figure out how to get into it? Probably not.

The Bookcase Door

Even more impressive than the bookshelf that opens up into a door might be this library that looks like it’s straight out of Hogwarts. How much free time does this person have, anyways?

Garage that Appears Out of Nowhere

Oftentimes in San Francisco there are strict rules against changing the overall look of the outside of your house. This person wanted a garage but couldn’t change their house’s appearance so they did this.
