Devil's Advocates

Childhood conception of devil leads us to cruel faced, always wrong, monster type of an entity that happens to be always behind our heads conspiring only when we are committing sins. Appearance of devil strictly follows the window period of sanity in which we remain pious. So it was pure black and white. Things seem to be difficult at that time striving for the right thing, but it always remained clear in the end what was wrong and who was right so we lived happily but not ever after as we grew older. I don’t think it was gradual but all of a sudden we woke up and found grey instead of black and white.

Many say Taliban are the “saviors” as they want to implement Islamic law in its crudest form possible. It is a very popular thought across Islamic world, if you take the hard line or more conservative stance you become “more Muslim” than the others. I remember traveling in public transport in Rawalpindi, I found a girl all wrapped up in clothes even her whole face sparing just one eye. Her husband happens to sit with me and said where the hell this society is going; nudity is a common thing in the cities. I said but a lot is still good here in this city. He replied sorrowfully “how can you say that, I can easily see both eyes of all the females in the bus although they are dressed in burkas. I fear how these females and their husbands are going to be punished.” So I felt “less Muslim “in front of him and prayed for myself.

Animals have their one very strong instinct and that is their own survival. So some animals even kill their own children if their own survival is at stake. But humans evolved to be the unique ones, they not only take care of the fellow human beings but they at least cry for the survival of the natural environment also. So the most civilized nations on earth sensed that in Afghanistan plan is being hatched against humanity by some bad guys so they come to rescue the interests of the whole world spending their billions as a cost. These saviors smelled some bad guys in Pakistan and they started spending millions on drones to help save Pakistan. At least every Pakistani and Afghani owes a lot to these “saviors”.

Some are impressed by the courageous and selfless efforts of Taliban who are risking their lives rather giving their lives in suicide bombs. So the most precious thing for a living entity on earth i.e. life is suddenly of no value in front of the supreme Taliban cause. But many can’t deny the selfless efforts of the most civilized nations who are spending in billions here. So the most precious thing in life i.e. money is not being taken care of in front of the security of one of the most deprived regions on earth. Both ideas couldn’t be left unintended so people are supporting what suits them. So people are divided distinctly what is black and what is white, this created a huge grey area in which our whole region is swimming. Our TV anchors are fond of widening the grey area so they can show their triple flips or flip jumps in the pool. No need to dive deep to know the reality of the pool because nobody clap for the unseen deep divers.

Conversely, Taliban has slaughtered inhumanly innumerable innocents and has accepted the shame in amateur videos while screaming with the devil faces over the opponents. Likewise, the most civilized nations with their devilish toys attacked precisely but happen to blast the bodies of the minor students, housewives and poor farmers. Don’t go by their beard faces or gentle statements of neatly dressed ladies but look at their blood stained palms. Both of them take bath early in the morning with the blood of their collaterally damaged innocents and present themselves to their advocates on T.V. So whatever you take side of you are devil’s advocates for sure, as you help them to liberate themselves of the guilt of massive slaughter campaign. Do not search them in the grey rather they have made themselves invisible in the dead black.
