Summer Arrival, Electricity Departure

(Hafiz Muhammad Noman, Karachi)

At last the summer started with full of scorching beams of the Sun. Perhaps, people either feel better or worse in the summer but one thing that surely affects and arouses their feelings is “electricity breakdown” or “power failure” that is always standing with the open mouth to gobble the people.

Electricity shortage has been the issue not only in summer but also in the winter. People have serious concerns over the issue before the summer is forthcoming because they know that in winter season, they can survive without electricity but in summer, they can hardly bear the electricity breakdown.

The concerns of the people regarding the electricity breakdown is appearing to be true as the duration of the load-shedding has increased in early days of the summer these days. Not only the duration of the load-shedding but also the timings of the load-shedding have been changed due to which people doing jobs are being seriously affected.

A person who returns home in the morning after a night job and is in search of a sound sleep but when he lies down in the bed, the light goes off. Think how worse the thing is that! How can a man perform his job in a better way when he cannot sleep better because sleeping not well paralysed the people mentally and they are no more able to work?

On the other hand, a lot of domestic and urgent work which we have to perform cannot be done only due to power failure or load-shedding and such situation makes a man peevish. Despite paying electricity bills, which have been exceeded in amounts and burdened a man a lot in this era of inflation and unemployment, people are far away from their basic right to use proper electricity. They already have been bearing the shortage of Sui gas in the winter and most of the people went to their offices without having breakfast in the morning whereas housewives were anxious about preparing lunch in the afternoon for their children and cooking for the night.

At least we are able to eat food in summer season but deprived of electricity, unfortunately. How long will this status quo remain?
