Internet Scams

(Syed Arsalan Ahmed, Karachi)

Hello friends ,
My Name is Arsalan and I am an average middle class guy who tends to raise the standards of living as per our requirements and have a little extravagant life which a bourgeois class dreams of...

Well, Today’s topic is Internet scams and Frauds…now we all have our free email addresses these days courtesy free mailing service providers like Gmail , Yahoo , Hotmail etc..

Now, You might have noticed junk mails filling up everyday in your e-mail accounts and some of them arrive in your inbox instead of going in the junk or spam folders and since we usually don’t pay attention to this , we usually open it, read it and sometimes get carried away with it…” U have Won 10,000USD “ , “ Free I-phones” , “shop and win free tour to Thailand” etc. These are all scams and frauds, just to rip you off from your money and believe me! People do get indulged and loose their life time savings in such frauds and betrayals.

Recently I encountered another type of scams and my gosh people are getting ripped off massively, Online shopping…there are thousands of websites offering cheap products and when you take a look at them you get that craving to have something for your self too.

I got indulged and I even contacted a bunch of websites for quotations of their products and they do reply fast…fast as a bullet ;) , so there I was with a bunch of quotations and ideas in my mind to start off my own business , but since I have been associated with marketing for the past 8 years I had my sixth sense ringing that something wasn’t right ,Therefore I started searching on those companies and found two of them in scammers list and there I found loads of complaints against them , this drowned me into perplexity to either trust it or not and there my mate lies the problem when your heart is indulged you usually start ignoring things like those..so did I , I searched on the other ones that weren’t in the scammers list but I couldn’t find anything against them yet I was skeptical as well so tried hard , really hard to control myself and do the homework first .

I was lucky to find a few articles and blogs about online shopping and scamming and found so many victims screaming for help and wishing they hadn’t been greedy…see greed the avid desire for money stops one from using his/her brain …so I took the necessary steps to avoid being theft, and after that the result was none…there wasn’t any web site or trading company which could indulge me with the rates and those who were, weren’t real.

So, if you ever plan to buy online, be very very cautious… here are a few things that can save you a bit..

1. Never talk to a sales person if email is the means of communication, else make sure that the person does actually represent the website you contacted.
2. Try to get a land line number of the company and talk directly to the manager regarding the sales representative that they are even aware of the person who contacted you.
3. Take full company address and try to find it on Google maps if you can or if you have any relative or friend in that area or city, you can ask them about the company’s existence.
4. Always ask the company to share their business certificate or trading certificate if they are out of country and get that certificate verified.
5. Its better to see the products with your naked eyes because there are hundreds of cases that people don’t get what they ordered for or the quality of the products are very low.
6. Never pay through western union or Moneygram, use Paypal if u can, at least they have the buyer protection program.
7. Finally and most importantly always remember this “ If its too good to be true…then it is “.

That’s it for now friends..Happy shopping!!
