Iran To Launch Own Google Alternative

Iran would launch own “Google”. Google which has been banned by some Muslim countries due to “Anti-Islam” video has been reported with a drop in local ranking in past days. Iran therefore thinking to launch own Google and Gmail alternative for its country.

Since, it is very difficult indeed to get all the works done without Gmail when you are talking about a country with 32 million internet users out of the population of 74 millions. Hussein Garrousi, a member of a parliamentary committee said, “Some problems have arisen due to the blocking of Gmail.” He further said that parliament would call the minister of telecommunications to ask if the ban was not lifted.

Ali Hakim, the deputy minister said that Iranian authorities are thinking to launch their own domestic search engine that is “The Fakhr”, which means “Pride” and also Gmail alternative that is “The Fajr”, which means“Dawn”. However, they will be lifting the ban from the Google as well.

The recent ban on websites and social networks like Facebook due to “Anti-Islam” video has made the users to look for new ways to bypass the barrier. People are sought to spend money for purchasing the proxies. Meanwhile, on Saturday a weekly news paper Asr-e-Ertebat reported that Iranians had already paid 4.5 million US dollars to purchase proxy services and other methods to reach blocked websites since the last month.

The way and decision of Iranian government to launch their own local search engine seems perfectly fine but what is the point of launching this new search engine and mailing service if they are restoring Google again.
