Nature may be more important than Nurture

(Naseem Sheikh, Lahore)

Genes are our packed disc of information fitted by God into us to perform according to that stored programme. That’s why we cannot control someone height, skin colour and hair length etc.

Israeli researchers studied a population of Ashkenazi Jews who have lived to age 95 and older and found that their eating and lifestyle habits were no better than those of general population.
These findings suggest that "nature" (longevity genes) may be more important than "nurture" (lifestyle behaviours) when it comes to living an exceptionally long life.

Data on comparison subjects came from 3,164 people who had been born around the same time as the centenarians and were examined between 1971 and 1975 while participating in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Twenty-four percent of long-living men drank alcohol daily, compared to 22% of the general population, while 43% of the older group exercised regularly compared to 57% of regular men. Study was published in Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

Overall, there were no significant differences between the two groups in lifestyle habits. They had similar average body mass index, had about the same daily alcohol consumption, got about the same amount of regular exercise, and approximately the same percentage of people followed a low-calorie diet. The secret to a very long life may have nothing to do with what you eat, how much exercise you get, or whether you smoke or drink. It may be because you got lucky with your gene pool.

Hoping there must be genetic control of obesity and smartness, because after much tougher dieting and routeing exercises mostly people regain easily when they left few precautions. Although research is under process but luck is massive factor that is totally in control of nature so we have been all qualities’ before birth packed in our DNA, and perform according to it.
