Al-Qawaaid ul-arba (القواعد الاربع) The Four
Principle/Foundation of Shirk.
By Shaykhul islam Muhammad bin Abdul wahhab ibn Sulaymaan at-tameemi (رحمہ الله
تعالى).
Principle/Foundation number: 3. The people with whom the Messenger of Allah
(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) differed in worship, some of them
worshiped angels, some of them worshiped stones, trees, the sun and some
worshiped prophets, saints. However, the Messenger of Allah SalAllahu Alayhe Wa
Sallam fought battles with all of them and did not differentiate between them.
The proof is mentioned in Qur'an:
وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ الدِّينُ لِلَّـهِ ۖ
interpretation of the meaning: And fight them until there is no more Fitnah
(disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allah) and (all and every kind
of) worship is for Allah (Alone).
(Surah al-baqarah: 2, ayah: 193) 1.
And the proof of this is that the sun and the moon (are worshiped). Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):
وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ ۚ لَا تَسْجُدُوا
لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ
interpretation of the meaning: And from among His Signs are the night and the
day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon
(Surah fussilat: 41 ayah: 37)
And the proof that angels are worshiped is that Allaah says (interpretation of
the meaning):
وَلَا يَأْمُرَكُمْ أَن تَتَّخِذُوا الْمَلَائِكَةَ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ أَرْبَابًا ۗ
Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods).
(surah aal-e-imran 3, ayah: 80)
1. It should be remembered here that it is the duty of good and virtuous rulers
to fight and eradicate disbelief by force and power. It is not in our religion
for general masses just issue a fatwa of disbelief, to behead people. Rather, it
is only for the common people to propagate the true message of the deen through
the propagation of the Qur'an and Sunnah. We pray to Allah that may He bring
upon us good and righteous rulers who will eradicate all forms of polytheism
with propagation and da'wah and with strength, Ameen.
