Question (Total Replies: 1)Thursday, December 22 2011

Zara (Student)
Intermediate / A Level
HSC
karachi

Sir I am going through a very serious problem here. All my life I wanted to be a doctor.I did my o'levels and then switched to inter where I scored 67%. I cleared Fatima Jinnah Dental college for bds and Liaquat medical and dental college for bds. I also applied to ziauddin and baqai medical universities for pharm d and got admission there too.The problem i am facing is that I didn't get into kmdc which is a govt. institution and is cheaper and meets my fathers affordability.I am really depressed these days because in my family and friends i am surrounded with people with great professional careers and it is putting me in an inferiority complex because of the way the society looks upto pharmacists and when i see my friends gong for bds just because they can pay fees in lahks and are not so good at studies than me it depresses me even more.My university is going to start from January2012.I can only pay pharm d fees in baqai cause that is affordable for me but I am very hesitant about choosing pharm d as my career.Do you know any cheaper private institutions offering bds in pakistan?I have interest in psychology too but my parents are saying what can i do in my post graduate studies regarding psychology.Does psychology and pharm d have scopes in US?what can i do after psychology in the US?I'll be very thankful if you could reply to my question Sir.

I think i its late to reply to this but saw it while surfing net, I am student of pharm D 3rd year.scope of pharmacy outside pak is very great. You just have to pass an exam of other countries to get registered there. There are many jobs in pakistan also, in industry, and teaching is also good. After pharm d you can do mphil in almost any field related to medicine or bio-sciences.
Pharmacy is also tougher than mbbs or bds if you study in it in a way in which other countries teach things.
Subjects in which we are supposed to be master are, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, dispensing, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry,
Other subjects which we must know are, anatomy, statistics, pharmacognosy(related to plants) physics. We are supposed to have know how of every thing in world, pharmacy is extremely big field.
Problem with pakistani pharmacists is that they are not good in their work, so if you become a good pharmacist your demand in market will be very high. Just work hard and take pride in being a pharmacist, we can prescribe better drugs than a general physician.
