Chief Justice demands tax records of Axact and Bol TV from FBR [DailyTimes] 14 Mar, 2018

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday demanded Axact company’s tax records in light of the fake degrees scandal and that of its news channel Bol TV from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar termed the allegations against Axact as serious, questioning the officials of their source of income as Bol TV does not take advertisements. Nisar directed the FBR to present a ten-year tax record of Axact.Nisar upon being questioned about Axact’s owner Shoaib Shiekh’s bail responded that he shall rest in jail for the crimes he had committed. He added that the court will not let anyone damage the country’s image.Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) added to the court’s knowledge about Shoaib Sheikh’s shares in foreign companies.FIA had raided Axact offices in Rawalpindi and Karachi on May 27, 2015 detaining at least 32 employees including the executive members and the Chief Executive after a scandal of thousands of fake degrees issued by Axact was published by the New York Times. In light of the fake degrees’ scam, printing press under Axact was seized by the FIA and Bol TV channel was banned for possession of machinery purchased illegally.
