Considering the situation in Pakistan, many prominent people are threatened. Many receive direct threats and others are warned by the law-enforcers to keep a low profile because they have received information that certain famous people are on ‘hit lists’ of some criminal and terrorist elements.
As real as this threat is to important people, there are many who have never been threatened believe they are threatened by virtue of being linked to a particular profession.
Mubasher Lucman seems to be one such person. Lucman said on his show aired on February 10, 2013 that recently some episodes of his shows were repeated because he was threatened and had to restrict his movement. As proof, he showed a letter sent to the law-enforcers which said that prominent people were under threat from attacks.
However, although no names were mentioned in the letter, Mubasher Lucman assumed he was one of those threatened and went in hiding. It was shameful that this so-called patriot and ‘vocal’ journalist hid from threats that were not even aimed at him mainly because he puts on this show of being brave and honest and all that.
It was shameful even more because Lucman who is an ex-army personnel from a long line of army personnel in his family. His cowardice reflects badly on the courageous men in arms who put their lives on the line every single day. But then Lucman probably left the armed forces quite early in his career because he was too scared to face the dangers that were part of the job.
It is funny that Lucman thought he was in the media it would be all cushy, no dangers and a lot of power to treat people as he pleased and blackmail powerful people from this platform, he realized that journalists are also on the radar.
But the funny thing is, that even though journalism is a tough and dangerous job Lucman has nothing to worry about mainly because only those journalists are on hit lists who are actually doing journalism and he is actually doing nothing except talking about non-issues concerning a handful of powerful people in Pakistan and blackmailing them.
In the end, it would be safe to say that Mubasher Lucman doesn’t have to worry for his life. He has not done any “breaking news”; “investigating stories” or “scoops” that expose journalists to dangers, so he can breathe easy.
On that note, it is pertinent to remind you that as a journalist you cannot misuse the media to lie and spread gossip. And if you are using the social media, don't put out any tweets that are baseless. In a tweet on Feb 10, you promised your viewers that you would be revealing something about Aman ki Asha in your episode at "10 03" that night. But as usual this was also a cheap gimmick and you were just trying to get people to watch your show, which was as plain and useless as ever.
