Axact CEO Shoaib Sheikh shifted to Adiala jail [DailyTimes] 26 Sep, 2018

RAWALPINDI: Axact Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shoaib Sheikh, who was arrested on Tuesday night, has been shifted to Adiala jail in Rawalpindi today (Wednesday).According to the sources, Sheikh was arrested in connection with Axact fake degree case and he would be produced before a local court on today. A senior official of the FIA also confirmed Sheikh’s arrest.Earlier today, a close friend of Axact CEO, Nigel Brian Rabellow, has been arrested from New Islamabad Airport.Rabellow was fleeing to Qatar via a private airline when immigration officers at the airport observed that his passport was blacklisted.According to the airport officials, the man was then handed over to the Anti Human Trafficking and Smuggling Cell.The arrested man is wanted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in two cases including the Axact fake degree mill.Also read CJP raged over Shoaib Shaikh’s intercessions: Axact fake degree scam In July this year, Sheikh and 22 others were sentenced by a district and sessions court to 20 years imprisonment in total and a fine of Rs1.3 million each in the case.Sheikh and others were sentenced to three years each under sections 419 and 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), and fined Rs0.3 million each.They were also sentenced to 7 years each under sections 468 and 471, and fined Rs1 million each. All penalties would be applied together under section 382 of the PPC.The court also acquitted three accused namely Aisha Shoaib Sheikh, Colonel (retired) Jamil Ahmed and Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Muhammad Younas giving them the benefit of doubt.Also read Shoaib Sheikh jailed for 7 years, wife acquitted in Axact fake degree caseFailure to pay fines under sections 419, 420 and 468 would lead to an extension of six months in their jail term on each count.The trial court judge had earlier acquitted Axact CEO and other accused in the case. Additional District and Sessions Judge Pervaizul Qadir Memon had confessed to receiving Rs5 million as bribe for acquitting Sheikh in the case.The FIA had also filed an appeal with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the trial court’s order acquitting all the accused in the case.
