Indonesia’s Continuous Improvement in Global Talent Competitiveness Index

Indonesia’s farsighted, sincere leadership knows the importance of its human resource and talent. It is highly important for countries to attract and retain their talent. This talent is treasure for any nation and help to uplift its country to new height and pay vital role in progress, prosperity and development of its country.
Talent means high performing employees, having good skills, hardworking, intelligent and better understanding the atmosphere and ability to bring improvement and leading towards the betterment of people’s lives, enhancing economic development and increasing Gross Domestic Product. Although Rich countries from so many years dominate the talent index and they were successful in retaining their talent however, since the political and economic power is shifting from west to east, therefore many Asian countries are advancing towards this direction and trying best to enhance their human skills, exploring and improving their talents and trying to provide them best opportunities.

INDONESIA is one of those countries which is performing well in exploring, improving and retaining its talent. Although world’s top ten countries on index table still are rich and can be seen in this table:

Among top ten countries in index only one country Singapore is Asian, while seven are Europeans, One Australian, and one is from North America. One country particularly to be mentioned which improved among Asian nations is INDONESIA. Indonesia climbed 4 spots to the 80th rank in five years. Although there is still more room for improvement however Indonesia is still above the ranks of many Asian and African countries and it is worth mentioning that Indonesia is 23 ranks above than India which is fifth largest economy of the world.

Besides Talent Competitive index Indonesia’s Human Development Index (HDI) is also improving. Its Human Development Index in 2023 reached 74.39 an increase of 0.62 points 0.84 percent comped to previous year 73.77. during the period 2020-2023, Indonesia increased an average by 0.72 percent annually. All Human Development Index (HDI) dimensions including healthy life, knowledge, and decent standard of living improved in 2023. The increase of HDI is higher than previous year. All dimensions increase higher compared to previous year, particularly the decent standard of living improved in 2023. The increase of HDI is higher than previous year, particularly the decent standard of living dimension, life expectancy at birth in 2023 was recorded as high as 73.93 years means nearly 74 years. This also means children born this year were expected to live 0.23 years longer than those who were born in the previous year. Measurement of life expectancy at birth is based on the result of long form 2020 population census.

In the knowledge dimension, the expected years of schooling indicator reached at 13.15, representing an increase of 0.05 years compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the mean years of schooling indicator (people aged 25+ years old) increased by 0.08 years from 8.69 years in 2021 to 8.77 years in 2023. The expected years of schooling and the mean years of schooling indicators calculated from the national socioeconomic survey (SUSENAS) March edition.
Decent standard of living dimension, represented by adjusted real per capita expenditure, increased by 420 thousand rupiahs (3.66 percent) compared to the previous year. The adjusted real per capita expenditure calculated from the national socioeconomic survey March edition and consumer prices.

The HDI’s knowledge dimension consists of two indicators: the expected years of schooling for the population aged 7 years or older and the mean years of schooling for the population aged 25 years or older. These two indices continue to rise every year. Indonesia’s expected years of schooling climbed by 0.43 per year on average between 2020 and 2023, while the mean years of schooling increased by 1.13 percent average rise in 2020-2022.

The third dimension of human development is the decent standard of living, which is measured by adjusted real expenditure per year ( at constant 2012 prices) . The adjusted real per capita yearly spending of the Indonesian people is expected to reach Indonesian Rupee (IDR) 11.90 million in 2023. This achievement rose by 420 thousand rupiah (3.66 percent) over the previous year, exceeding the over the previous year, exceeding the 2020-2022 average growth rate of 2.09 percent year.
