Ingredients
  1. 1 ½ lb. stewing steak
  2. 2 tablespoons desiccated coconut, soaked in
  3. ½ pint (U.S. If cups) hot milk
  4. 2 large onions 2 green chillis
  5. ½ -inch fresh root ginger
  6. 2 cloves garlic oil for frying
  7. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  8. 2 teaspoons ground cummin seeds
  9. ½ teaspoon crushed peppercorns
  10. Salt to taste
Method
  • Trim the meat into large cubes. Squeeze the milk out of the coconut, reserving only the milk. Mince the onions, chillis, ginger and the garlic. Fry the onions for 10 minutes and then add the green chillis and ginger. Fry for five minutes and add the tur¬meric, cummin, garlic and peppercorns. Fry well for five minutes and add the meat. Fry the meat until brown on all sides. Pour in the coconut milk and simmer until the meat is cooked. Season with salt and serve hot with chappatis and sliced red pepper.
