This ceremony usually takes place when the baby and mother become physically fit as there’s no time and day fixed for this ceremony they mainly focus on the baby and mother’s health first. Sikh baby names are mostly derived from Guru Granth Sahib. In this ceremony, the father of the baby or any other elder person asks Guru Granth to choose the first letter of their baby’s name, and then the family of the baby names their baby including this letter, this might happen immediately or takes some days to name the baby and then they announce their baby name to the gathering, this gathering includes close family members of newly parents.

The family reads a random verse from Guru Granth usually none as “Hukam” and from the first letter of the verse baby’s name is derived, the suffix ‘Kaur’ completes the baby girl’s name, and the suffix ‘Singh’ completes the baby boy name. After naming the baby they sing their songs of bliss and joy.
