Wuling Mini EV Sold More than 40,000 Units in a Month

The Wuling Hong Kuang Mini EV has emerged as China’s most favorite electric vehicle. The compact EV is selling a record number of units every month. The number rose to more than 40,000 in August, with 41,188 units precisely. While the company is eyeing selling 45,000 to 50,000 units in September. The vehicle has been on the market for 15 months and has sold around a quarter-million units. Sales were temporarily on halt due to production difficulties caused by Covid, but now the Mini EV is breaking records one after another.

The Wuling Hong Kuang Mini EV is a result of a joint venture between SAIC, GM, and Wuling. The Mini EV is a tiny, lightweight city car with two variants: a base model with a 9.2 kWh battery pack and a range of 120 kilometers, and a superior model with a 13.8 kWh battery pack and a range of 170 kilometers. They both feature the same powertrain: a 13 kW single electric motor with 17.4 horsepower and 85 Nm of torque.

About six months ago, Javed Afridi who represents MG Pakistan and loves to tease car enthusiasts tweeted about car. The Tweet reads, “WULING MINI EV FOR PAKISTAN MARKET BELOW 1 MILLION PKR COMING SOON”. However, no official launch date has been announced by the MG key stakeholder. It is safe to assume that the vehicle will take a bit of time since it is available only in the left-hand drive setting. Producing a right-hand drive variant is a different ball game altogether. However, the Wuling Hong Kuang Mini EV could be a great value car for the Pakistani market for under Rs. 1 million.
