FIA presents Axact chief before court [The Nation] 27 Feb, 2018

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented Axact CEO Shoaib Shaikhbefore the district court south for the hearing of money laundering case today. According to Waqt News,FIA arrested Axact chief yesterday afterSindh High Court rejected his protective bail. The Islamabad High Court had earlier issuednoticesto Shaikh and others on an appeal of the Federal Investigation Agency against the acquittal ofAxactofficials in the fake degree case. TheFIAhad filed theappeal under section 417 Criminal Procedure Code against Additional Sessions judge Islamabad Pervaizul Qadir Memon’s judgment through which all 27 accused persons were acquitted, maintaining that the judgment was a result of a misreading. In January, international news media reports said over 3,000 UK citizens had purchased fake degrees fromAxactduring the period 2013 and 2014.
