Axact fake degree case: Judge sacked for taking bribe to acquit Shoaib Shaikh [DailyTimes] 16 Feb, 2018

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday sacked an additional district and sessions judge from service after he had confessed to receiving Rs5 millions for acquitting Shoaib Shaikh in Axact fake degree case.According to an official IHC notification, Pervaiz-ul-Qadir Memon was removed from service with immediate effect after he confessed to having taken bribe to clear Shaikh and others in Axact degree scandal. In June, 2017, ADSJ had reportedly admitted before the IHC that he received Rs5 million to acquit Shoaib Shaikh.IHC’s show cause notice issued to Memon had read that he “committed an act of corruption by receiving illegal gratification to the tune of Rs5 million for the acquittal of accused (Shoaib Ahmed Sheikh) through judgment dated 31.10.2016.”In August 2016, a district and sessions court acquitted Axact CEO in money laundering case that surfaced in 2015 due to lack of evidence.Shaikh’s defence moved an application under section 265-k of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CCP) before the South District’s additional sessions judge. The application sought acquittal of the accused since the prosecution failed to bring any evidence supporting their claim on record, Shaikh’s attorey, Imdad Ali Saheto said.
