Ingredients
  1. Rice ½ kg
    Gram lentils boiled ½ cup
    Pigeon peas boiled ½ cup
    Dry red chilies 6
    Curry leaves 6
    Mustard seeds 1 tsp
    Fresh coconut grated 1 cup
    Turmeric 1 tsp
    Salt ½ tsp
    Onion 1
    Crushed red pepper 1 tsp
    Oil ½ cup
Method
  • Heat 4 tbsp oil in a pan, add 1 chopped onion and fry till golden brown.
    Add in 1 cup water, ½ tsp salt, 1 tsp turmeric, ½ cup boiled gram lentils and ½ cup boiled pigeon peas.
    Cook till it comes to a boil, then add ½ kg rice and water as required. Cook till water dries.
    Now simmer on low flame.
    Heat remaining oil in a frying pan, add 6 curry leaves, 6 dry red chilies, 1 tsp mustard seeds and 1 cup grated fresh coconut. Fry well.
    Spread on top of rice, mix well.
    Sprinkle with 1 tsp crushed red pepper and serve.
