Ingredients
  1. 8 oz. masoor dhal
  2. 1 pint (U.S. 2f cups) salted water 1 ½ lb. lamb or beef
  3. salt to taste
  4. 1 large onion
  5. 2 cloves garlic
  6. 1-inch fresh root ginger
  7. oil for frying
  8. ½ tablespoon ground coriander seeds 1 teaspoon ground cummin seeds
  9. 1 ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  10. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  11. ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  12. ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Method
  • Wash and soak the dhal for 30 minutes. Boil in salted water until soft. Cut the meat in cubes, season with salt. Mince the onion, garlic and ginger very finely. Heat some oil in a saucepan and fry the onions until golden. Add the garlic and ginger and fry for 1-2 minutes before adding the ground spices. Fry well for about 10 minutes. Sprinkle with water if the mixture becomes too dry. Now add the meat and fry well. Lower the heat, add the dhal, cover, and cook gently until meat is tender.
