Ingredients
  1. 7 cups sliced apples
  2. 1/3 cup sugar
  3. 2 tbs lemon juice
  4. 1 cup flour
  5. ½ cup rolled oats
  6. 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  7. ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice
  8. ¼ tsp salt
  9. ½ cup butter, cut finely
  10. ¼ tsp nutmeg
  11. 1 ½ tbs cornstarch
  12. 1 tbs sugar
  13. 1 frozen pie shell.
Method
  • Preheat oven to 375F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, stir apple slices, 1/3 cup sugar and lemon juice.
  • Let apple mixture sit for 10 minutes. .
  • While it sits, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, salt and butter.
  • Pulse repeatedly until mixture is finely crumbled.
  • In another small bowl, stir together nutmeg, cornstarch and remaining 1 tbs of sugar.
  • Pour this over the apples and stir through..
  • Pour apple mixture into the pie crust.
  • Top with a heavy layer of the oat mixture.
  • Pat it down gently with your hands, making sure to cover the apples completely.
  • Bake for about an hour, with pie on a baking sheet as it may drip.
