Ingredients
  1. 12 medium colocasia !caves, preferably black
  2. ½ cup tur (arhar). chana or whole moong dal
  3. 15 peanuts (roasted)
  4. 3" piece dried coconut
  5. 4 green chillies (ground)
  6. 1 piece ginger (ground)
  7. 1/2 cup gur
  8. a lemon-sized ball of tamarind
  9. ½ tsp turmeric; salt to taste
  10. 2 tblsps oil
  11. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  12. a pinch of asafoetida
Method
  • Wash and cut the colocasia leaves. Wash dal and drain; slice the coconut and peanuts.
  • Cook the above in a pressure cooker with sufficient water. When cooked, add the ginger, green chilies, gur, tamarind, turmeric and salt
  • . Heat the oil, add mustard seeds and cumin, and when they begin to crackle add asafoetida and the cooked leaves and dal. Mix well and keep on the fire for 7 minutes, stirring constantly. This preparation goes well with rice and chapatis.
