Ingredients
  1. 1 large onion, finely chopped
  2. 1 garlic clove, crushed
  3. 3 green chillis, finely chopped
  4. 1-inch fresh root ginger, grated
  5. Oil for frying
  6. 1 rounded teaspoon turmeric powder
  7. 1 rounded teaspoon ground cummin seeds
  8. 2 rounded teaspoons ground coriander seeds
  9. 2 teaspoons chili powder
  10. 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  11. 1 ½ lb. lean lamb or beef, cut into cubes
  12. ½ pint (U.S. 1k cups) water
  13. Salt to taste
  14. 1 oz. creamed coconut
Method
  • Fry onion, garlic, chillis and ginger lightly for five minutes in some oil. Add the ground spices and fry well. Add the meat and when thoroughly brown add water. Season with salt and simmer till meat is tender. Add the creamed coconut 20 minutes before the end. Adding more water if necessary.
