Zarebski topples Sami to reach World Junior Tennis semifinals

LAHORE - Poland’s Maciej Zarebski toppled Pakistan’s Sami Zeb Khan to reach the boy’s singles semifinals of the ITF Pakistan AJ Towers World Junior Tennis Championships at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex. Unseeded Russian Nikita Bortnichek stunned top seed Amirali Ghavam from Iran 6-2, 7-5 while unseeded Russian Ivan Iutkin shocked second seed Yunes Talavar from Iran to make way into the semifinals. In the third quarterfinal, Macheij Zarebski struggled hard to beat local player Sami Zeb 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 whereas fifth seed Kazakhstan’s Aldiyar Abzan defeated fourth seed Russian Serazhetdinov 6-2, 0-6, 6-2. In the girls singles, top seed Andra Izabella Sirbu (ROU) proved too hot for Renata Garaeva (RUS) and brushed him aside by 6-0, 6-0, whereas second seed Tamara Ermakova (RUS) defeated Tatyana Chsherbakova (KAZ) by 6-4, 6-2. The semifinals will be played between Andra Izabella Sirbu (ROU) and Olga Sorchkina (RUS), and Tamara Ermakova (RUS) and Melisa Ugur (TUR) today (Thursday).
