There are various myths and lies that become an absolute truth for many, whether it's because they are passed from generation to generation, because they were believed to be true at one point, or simply because they were spread as rumors.
 

Oranges

Vitamin C doesn't help colds or the flu. What the vitamin normally does is alleviate the discomfort of the ailment.


Pain and ice cream

If you have a sore throat, eating ice cream or something cold is not going to make it worse. What causes an infection is a completely isolated virus, and eating something cold can actually anesthetize and soothe the pain.


 

Water and electricity

100% pure water does not conduct electricity. In truth, what makes water conduct electrical current is the presence of minerals and other substances in it.


 

Gum

Swallowed gum does not take 7 or more years to digest. The gum is actually never digested, but just passes through our bodies.


Bats

These animals are not blind, and actually have quite good vision. They use sonar to hunt prey and fly, but they can also see.


Animal vision

Cats and dogs don't see on a gray scale. They actually see in tones of blue and green.


Brain

We're sure you've heard multiple times that we only use 10% of our brain. In truth, as humans we use our entire brains, but in totally different areas and at different moments.


Cures

Toothpaste doesn't help burns, scars, or pimples. If you put this product on your wounds, it can actually cause infections and set back the healing process.


Insects

Mosquitoes don't have a lifespan of a day. The average lifespan for these animals is actually one month.


Elephant's trunk

To drink water, this animal uses it's mouth like any other living thing. The nose, or the trunk, serves to store or expel the water.
