Transgender’s life in Pakistan

(Asma jabeen, jhelum)

Who are they??Where they stand???

Transgender (also known as khewaja seras or third gender). It was the very first time in the history of Pakistan that transgender population was counted in 2017 census and it was about 500,000 transgender living in Pakistan.

But do they enjoy equal rights as the other citizens of Pakistan??

The very sad fact is that they enjoy the least amount of respect and right in Pakistan. Their rights have been demolished by majority of people here. Me as a student… as a citizen of Pakistan myself is searching on this issue from the couple of months that why even the literate people do this injustice to theses transgenders.I’ve been asking people the reason of this and even a single person couldn’t give me a solid excuse for their rude and bad behavior towards them. After researching on the life of transgender it has been concluded that their life is worse than anything else in Pakistan.
Have their rights been discussed in Islam??

Definitely yes. As Islam and Pakistan are directly related to each other. But have you ever asked this question to yourself that what Islam emphasized on…what are its teachings?? Definitely no because Islam also emphasized on the rights of these transgender which have not been fulfilled even they are not treated as humans??

Why??Aren’t they human? Or they look like aliens who belong to some other planet??

I am pretty damn sure that no one has answers of these questions. Even the literate people of the society they don’t know how to treat them. They are not only doing this unjust but the fact is that they are also ruining their next generations by behaving with these transgender in front of their children...what our children will seek from us ??

If we look beyond these issues there are no employment policies for them.

Moreover it has been documented 46 killings of transgender and 300 violent attacks on them across KP.One of the transgender Alisha was shot eight times. Vision’s mapping study found that 82% of transgender had suffered sexual abuse in their childhood...Is this what Islam teach us??Think for a while …..

Apart from that if we look at the education side then we can take the example of Rifee khan who narrated that she approached a premier language speaking training institute in Karachi. She was told that it could not enroll her in their classes as she was a transgender. Instead the institute suggested khan to take private lessons in learning spoken English because the families of the other students would object to her presence .This is not the only incident that happened to her there are hundreds of issues like these that they go through in just a single day. And we as a normal person cannot bear the burden of a single issue. Then why we are doing this unfairness to them…

Moreover 50% of the transgender have been sexually assaulted and according to the British transgender people 84% have committed suicide. And this is the level where the cruelty is at its peak.

Now it’s a time to get up, grow up, and speak up for their rights. It’ll start from our inner self and then it’ll definitely reach to the heart of every person. We need to fulfill their rights which they own…let’s do this deed to protect the life, prosperity, and intellect of firstly them and then of the whole nation..let’s do this act to protect our own right because we never know that may be tomorrow someone can demolish our rights just as we are doing with these transgender today…Let’s do this to save Pakistan. Let’s start this chain of spreading happiness on everyone’s face and life .I’ve started it and I select you to continue this chain.
