Halala In Quran

(Rabia Hashim, )

Islam has made the lives of the people very easier and has given its people to follow a righteous path. From eating to bathing, from praying to sleeping, from listening to speaking and even from marriage to divorce, the Quran and Islam has got answers for all of human beings questions. The last thing I mentioned is the marriage and divorce which is highly diversified topic. People have got different myths regarding marriages and divorces. Here I am going to discuss about the most sensitive issue in this regard which is Halala. People have many misconceptions about this issue. They do not follow the teachings of Quran and even they misinterpret whatever is written about halala in Quran. You can see the TV dramas on this issue showing the process of halala in a totally different perspective. Let’s discuss what people say about halala. The common thought among people is that when a husband divorces his wife, he can remarry to her in a way that the wife will marry someone else, play the role of his wife and then get divorced. Then the first husband will remarry her. Now let’s discuss what Quran says about halala.

The Holy Qur’an explains: “So if a husband divorces his wife (for a third time), he cannot, after that remarry her until after she has married another husband and he has divorced her. In that case, there is no blame on either of them if they re-unite, provided they can keep the limits ordained by Allah. Such are the limits ordained by Allah which He makes plain to those who know”. (2:230).

This clearly shows that Allah has allowed remarrying your first wife but within the limits setting by the Allah Almighty. The planned halala is not jayez. The Prophet (PBUH) has cursed both such men who perform Halala and for whom Halala is performed. The second Caliph Hazrat Umar ruled during his reign that he will punish with stoning to death, those who perform a pre-planned Halala (Jama-e-Trimizi). Therefore, the issue of someone marrying a man simply for sake of divorce is not permissible in Islam. That is nothing but corruption. I hope I have made myself clear and not added anything from my side. I have given the reference from Quran and Hadees. So, please spread this message and aware people about following the teachings of Islam without interpreting them according to their ease. The most logical example can be how a man can ask someone to remarry his wife and then give divorce to his wife, when she is no more his wife.
