Education through Modern Ways

(Abha Abubakar Khalid, Bahawalpur)

No, one can deny that the electronic media and modern ways of Education are very useful and are just a click away but to get to that standards What is the role of our Teachers.

so the Question arises?

Q: The disruptive power of digital learning tools & resources is hard to underestimate. How is this impacting our traditional ways of acquiring knowledge? Are opinions formed in isolation-or within closed communities-a threat? And what should be the role of the teacher when every piece of information is just a click away?

Now the answer is: This current period of time is no doubt the era of technology where getting information about anything is just a click away. It is sure a fastest, easiest and more advanced mean of learning. At this current age it is no big deal to write articles, essays, reports etc of thousands of words in a matter of time of a day or two, but previously it was a big task in itself. As students literally used to find people to help them in specific subject or anything. As very few people were available with the knowledge of that particular subject and all. But at this time no one needs to go and consult anyone and roam around to complete any sort of task as everything is present out there on internet.

Since we all consider it as a blessing and without any sort of doubt it is but with every blessing comes a curse as well. These days parents do not have to worry about how their kids going to do their homework or in university or college instructors are not that much bothered about their subjects as they know even if they miss out anything every single student has access to digital learning tools and resources. But this way of thinking has caused a damage in a way that no one can realize it. In good old days teachers used to consider teaching a very serious business as it was not just a way of making money for them but they actually used to take the responsibility of making the student understand what they have taught, and guide him properly until or unless he does not become capable of flourishing in that subject.

Getting knowledge to know stuff is not at all the core idea but to understand it and to capable of utilizing it is the main task here. In old times teachers used to make sure that students understand what they have learnt. And teachers never used to leave them depending on other people and outside resources. They used to work hard on pupils so they come up with their own way of presenting stuff yes of course they do need some sort of help from outside but that does not mean that we get the information on certain topic without even knowing anything about it. We can expect someone to know alpha and omega of every single thing. But to have basic knowledge and understanding of something is the most important thing.

In this era students complete their projects and degrees but they are not aware of the basic information of the subject they got degree in. and that is the drawback of depending too much on digital learning tools and resources that we miss out the true meaning of learning that was available in old days. We need genuine way of teaching for students along with the digital learning so we produce true scholars, doctors and engineers not just students with no pure knowledge of what they have studied.

So the role of the teachers is that they should take their job more seriously, their core responsibility is to make sure students understand and guide them properly and not just leave them depending on digital learning. It is time for them to take their job and duty seriously it is not just about getting salary but about the future of a student. What students lack these days is an intellectual relationship or conversation with the teacher that can help to overcome their weakness and guide them to become better student and this gap can only be fulfilled if they start it seriously. We don’t need teachers which merely tells stuff to students, demonstrates or just explain. But we need teachers to inspire students so they feel free to share a good strong bond with teachers because they are the ones who work on our character, personality and abilities so we become what we want to, To make that happen teachers need to understand that if the student fails as teachers they also fail because they were not able to make their student become a better one.
