Karachiites! Wear Helmets or Pay Fine

Riding a bike without the helmet, is dangerous. According to WHO, each year about 1.2 million people die as a result of road traffic crashes, and millions are injured or disabled. Wearing a helmet can reduce the chance of head injuries and fatalities resulting from motorcycle crashes. It can decrease the risk and seriousness of injuries among motorcyclists by 70% and chances of death by 40%. Many countries of the world have adopted the strategy of wearing helmet as they have adopted the laws enforced and raising public awareness about the benefits of helmet use and this law.
 


Pakistani traffic authorities have taken the situation seriously. Realizing the level of seriousness, DIG Traffic of Karachi has announced that wearing helmet will be compulsory for motorcycle riders along with their companions. This rule will be effective from June 1st 2015 in all the metropolis and strict action will be taken against those who violate it. The female riders are not exempted from this law and they are instructed to wear helmets. The action has been taken in accordance with the Motorcycle Safety Ordinance.
