My Encounter With Wisdom

(Duyilemi Felix, Ibadan)

It was the early hour on monday, when quitely a man walked into my study, I could recognize him because on several ocassions I have seen him in my dreams, mostly when I needed an answer to a complex problem. His name his wisdom. His gentle hands touched my shoulder and said "Why are you up so early?" And I replied "I am setting my goals for the day" Good replied the sage.

"My name is wisdom, I have appeared to you several times in your dreams" I nodded in agreement.

You wonder why I am here this early hour of the day, it's because of your strong desire to learn. You see, leanly closely towards me, "I love people who love wisdom" because "wisdom is the principal thing" I was listening to him with undivided attention. "I am here to tell you one of the greatest secrets of success in life is a passion for learning" He then looked around my study with his eyes glancing through my bookshelf "good, good" said wisdom "great people invest in books before they invest in other things, poor people invest in other things before they invest in books"
"Son" he looked at me with a knowing smile "Never place EARNING before LEARNING"

"You see" He continued with a gentle tone " If you place before an average man a bag full of gold and a clay of tablets inscribed with words of wisdom, and you ask him to choose one, which one do you think he will choose?" You know the answer "he will choose gold" wisdom didn't allow me to rack my brain.

" I have tested you and you have passed my test and I am here to reward you" my face lifted in excitement! What could it possibly be? I soliloquized!

He dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out a scroll and said this is my gift for you. I only give it to a worthy seeker. On the top of the scroll is the title: 10 things Wise People learn late.

I looked at the title intently while talking to myself "10 THINGS WISE PEOPLE LEARN LATE" Wisdom probably knew what was going through my mind, he said "take time to study them so that you can learn them early. You don't have to be old before you become wise"

I will visit you again when you have mastered this scroll, he waved his hands and disappeared from my study.
