Our Education System Causing Our Failure

Islamic Republic of Pakistan is at the 136th in ranking of literate population according to the UNESCO’s survey. Pakistan spends just 1.5 to 2 percent of the total GDP to education. Comparing with other countries Pakistan doesn’t spend the half of the GDP. Other countries spend 6 to 7 percent of their GDP to the education and Malaysia spends 36 % of her GDP to education. 58% is the literacy rate of Pakistan. There are some key issues with the educational system of Pakistan. The main factor in educational institutions for the failure of the students is our Multilanguage culture. There are round about 70 cultures and languages spoken in Pakistan including Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Blochi, Pashto, Gilgiti, Kashmiri and Hindko etc. Urdu is most common, well known and playing lingua franca role. English is emerging language and now it has become official language. Our education system is borrowed from modern societies like U.S.A and from Europe, through borrowing that system English language has become compulsory for our society and language is the main pillar in culture for its transmission and communications. For adopting the educational system of Europe we have adopted their dressing styles, speaking styles, co-education system, values, economic system and some of their belief. At present two languages are being promoted for educating pupils. In elite schools the education provided to the pupils in English and in Govt. school Urdu is used to teach. In this way there become two groups in society English and Urdu medium, actually these are not the groups in society that shows the difference between haves and have not. Haves can pay more fee to the elite class schools and have not can’t pay fee so they send their children to Govt. schools and Madrasah’s. Where they get Urdu education or get the religious education, in professional life this education become useless to them. In job competition they can’t compete their English fellows and now days multinational organizations hires most competent and well English spoken men for jobs. Pakistan is multicultural country where people belongs to different back grounds they even don’t speak Urdu as well. The people gets the education from English medium schools hold different perspectives than people gets education from Madrasah’s and from Urdu medium schools. Due to conflict in Christian and Islamic Movements, mostly people don’t like western cultures and their values, they even hate English language. From adopting the western system of education people have become ethnocentric. They are not yet ready to leave inheritance culture.
