Everything is getting changed
in the education sector. The center of attraction has been shifted from
teacher’s authoritative approach to student’s autonomy. The teacher is no more
labeled as a “Teacher”, rather a facilitator who facilitates the learning
process and resolves students’ problems. A student’s personality is equally
important to his academic performance. A student should not only show the
headway in studies but also a handsome growth in moral and ethical values.
It has been observed that the teacher, students and parents collectively make a
triangle which help in achieving the targeted goals. Furthermore, It is a well
established fact that the students are less than accurate reporters of their
progress, so parents-teacher meeting becomes a compulsion in this regard. The
researchers talk about the purpose of the triangle as improving the academic
performance of the students and neglecting the other areas. Regrettably, I must
say, In Pakistani Schools and Colleges, teacher-parents meeting merely clings to
students’ academic performance, where teacher and parents discuss on the related
academic issues of the student, they never intend to inquire the students
attitude and etiquette. In addition, they never intent to get closer to the
teacher to know the real aptitude of the student so that a student could be
counselled smoothly. In this era, parents-teachers meeting is held for academic
purpose only, and they are least bothered about counseling the students
regarding their career and students’ personality grooming.
The very purpose of this triangle ought to address to the other related issues,
that is ,how do students behave with the teacher? Does he adhere to the
teacher's orders and suggestions? What is his aptitude? Does he know about his
goals? Does he know his real talent in a particular field?
In a nutshell, we could see a big gap between teacher and parents as for as
students moral values and counseling is concerned. I must say that this TRIANGLE
should serve a TRIO PURPOSE that is, strengthening students’ ethical and moral
values, improving their performance in the academics and on the top of it , a
better counseling. We need to bridge this gap between teacher and parents by
empowering this TRIANGLE and TRIO PURPOSE for the sake of chalking out students’
way.
