You’ll Never Believe What They Made These Homes, Hotels, And Restaurant From!

Recycled shipping containers are cropping up all over the world as homes, work studios, vacation get-aways, hotels, and even restaurants. We’ve put together a collection of some of our favorites.

Coromandel Bach

This 2-bedroom shipping container designed by Crosson Clarke Carnachan Architects is located in Coromandel, New Zealand. The home is open and spacious, while the bedrooms are enclosed and private. A large fireplace allows winter occupation and the open bathroom and movable bath allows the rituals of bathing to become a connection to nature.

The Zigloo Project

The Zigloo Project designed this modern 1,920 square-foot 3 bedroom 2 bath home. It’s made up of 8 containers and salvaged stairs. The heating system is in the floor. Hot water tubes are integrated to the concrete floor finish and it provides year round comfortable temperatures in a very efficient hot water-on-demand boiler system.

Porta-Bach

The “Porta-Bach” container designed by Atelier Workshop has built-in wood paneling, kitchenette, bunk beds, and a fold-out terrace and to top it all off totally mobile. Bach is short for bachelor pad in New Zealand.

The Insta-House

The Insta-House in Amagansett, New York is a prefab container art studio designed by Maziar Behrooz Architecture. It’s made up of four 8×40 recycled containers with two bedrooms, two baths, a full kitchen, and living room. This well-designed, environmentally conscious home can be fabricated in just 8 weeks and installed for a very affordable price of $149,000.

Sleeping Around

Sleeping Around is a Belgium pop-up hotel that travels the world on demand. The hotel is made up of 7 shipping containers that can be shipped anywhere a customer requests. The hotel has its own water system and provides guests with box spring beds with high quality linen, walk-in showers, and more. Once in their chosen locations, the hotel rooms can be set up and fully functional under 6 hours.

Porchetta

Porchetta is a temporary restaurant in Montreal, Canada that serves Italian food out of a shipping container in collaboration with Muvbox.

Caterpillar House

Sebastián Irarrázaval’s prefabricated Caterpillar House was designed and built for an art collector and his family on the outskirts of Santiago, Chile. It has everything from massive mountaintop views to hot tubs and rooftop decks.

12 Container House by Adam Kalkin

Another Kalkin creation, the Push Button House is exactly what it sounds like: A house that appears with the push of a button. Motorized walls unfurl like draw bridges to reveal furniture secured to the walls/floor.
