You probably dial a few of them every day, but do you ever stop and think about the history behind a phone number? When were the first numbers introduced? Invention of Phone numbers

Before invention of phone number, the phone service was dialed and then the phone operator on the other end was asked to connect to the person to be spoken to. This system got changed when Dr. Moses (friend of Alexander Bell) advised for a new system so that anyone can use the system without having a problem and phone numbers were used.


The very first Area code

Area code in the phone number was used in the year 1951 in New Jersey. The area code used in the phone number is the advanced version of “north American numbering” plan. In this plan, area codes are given as per the ration of the population.


 

Emergency Numbers

Emergency numbers in phone made it easy for anyone to get immediate help and different countries have different emergency phone numbers. E.g. 911 is the standard emergency phone number used in the US. 999 is the emergency number used in the UK and in Europe the number is 112.


 

The Most Expensive phone number

The most expensive phone number was sold for $207 million. The number was 666-6666 and it was sold in Qatar for raising money in a charity.


Fictional Numbers Are Set Aside For Films

The "Klondike" or "KL" phone exchange was first used to generate fictional phone numbers in American TV and films. This later evolved to the current "555" prefix, some of which have been set aside purely for fictional purposes. In the UK, 01632 is the fictional area code recommended by Ofcom, although it does also provide non-working suggestions for major cities, as well as fictional cell, freephone and premium rate numbers.


Phone number magic Trick

This trick is to impress the friends. A seven-digit number is taken and then the first three digits have to be multiplied by 80 then 1 is added to it and multiply by 250 and then add the last four digits to the actual phone number. Then add the last four digits again and subtract 250 from it and then divide by two.
