Has It Influenced Us?

(Iram Tahir, Lahore)

We have spend Eid Milad-un-Nabwi _a very sacred day but have we strived to introduce certain changes in us or have we commit to make ourselves better Muslims in order to honor the memory of our great Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH)in real terms?

Just suppose if Mohammad (PBUH) comes to visit us at our house, will we continue with the activities of which we are use to in our daily life routine? Definitely not!! We will at once change our routine and many things would suddenly become a part of our lives that we generally do not give importance to at all. Firstly, we would rush to change our unislamic way of dressing. Secondly, we will hide all the magazines, CDs, DVDs, Cassettes etc and will pick up the Holy Quran, Islamic Books and Book of Ahadees to replace them. We will rush to switch off our TV and radio sets before the noises could reach him. During his visit we will offer prayers five times a day, recite Holy Quran, do Zikar of ALLAH regularly and we will do Islamic discussions with him. We would be very reluctant to take him to our work places or colleges and universities where people are involved in activities like smoking, lying, rude behavior with subordinates, idle gossips and such other activities.

We would probably find no words to explain to him our relationships with our nearest neighbor because we know very little about them. In some cases we may not even know the names of the family members living next to us.

About neighbor’s right his Hadith is:

‘I swear in the name of one in Whose custody is my life, the rights of neighbors can be rightly paid by one on whom ALLAH showers His Mercy. And few among you know about the rights of neighbors.( The rights of neighbors include), Help them in fulfilling their necessities, give them loans, if they are happy greet them, and if they are sad , share their sorrows, if they are sick, visit them to help and if they die, offer funeral. Prayers for them (Namaz-e-Janaza) and be with them until they are buried.’
(Tafseer Rooh-ul-Bayaan, part 5/ page 530)

And among all above listed instructions we probably fulfill none.
How will we reply if he asks us about giving alms, donations, Zakat and our fulfillment of duties which ALLAH and His Prophet have set for relations, orphans and needy people? About the rights of orphans, widows and needy people,
Quran says:

“Honor them and treat them with politeness, kindness, courtesy and generosity”
[89: 16-17]
So, to all his questions we will find ourselves blank.

Now the point to ponder is why we will find ourselves blank to these questions and why above mentioned sudden changes will come in our behaviors and activities in case of Holy Prophet’s visit? The reason is that because in spite of indulging in these activities, we are unconsciously aware that we are doing wrong and any one of us will immediately stop all these activities if he considers the possibility of Holy Prophet’s visit likely. As a Muslim we all are well aware that to obey the commands of ALLAH and Holy Prophet is our utmost duty.

When we look around we find our society devoid of Equality, Forgiveness, Brotherhood, Honesty, Humbleness, Patience and Consistency. All these are the golden moral values preached to us by our Dear Holy Prophet (PBUH). By acting these cardinal virtues we can turn our land into Heaven.

We only see corruption around us but self analysis shows us our inner corruption. We all have some degree of corruption in us as far as moral values are concerned. Self analysis is the key to transforming ourselves in the light of golden Islamic moral values.
Instead of criticizing and pinpointing the flaws in other people’s character we should analyze our character in order to remove the objectionable and characteristics and habits.

Every individual through self analysis can make himself fall into the category of best Muslim so that he can make himself worthy of being a host to Holy Prophet (PBUH) if situation arises.
