Fashion In islam

(Maryam Rehman, Karachi)

Once a Dominician fashion designer, Oscar Dr La Rehta said, "Fashion is about dressing according to what's fashionable. Style is more about being yourself."
While Islam outlines a code of modesty and has no fixed standards as to type of clothing that Muslim must wear. Since Allah has permitted Muslims to wear nice clothes and put on a good appearance.

However, it is a misconception that Islam rejects people wearing beautiful clothes. Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) once said to his companions, "Allah is beautiful and loves beauty". Allah has only prohibited to follow such fashion standards blindly that allure the attention of opposite sex, which is big cause of Peer Pressure. Allah and Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) cursed the women who are clothed yet naked.

Allah himself states in Quran, "Children of Adam, wear your best clothes to every mosque". (Surah Al-Aaraaf 7:31)

A Muslim should follow fashion, wear good and decent clothes but in a way that protects his identity through the way he looks and through the way he acts. As our identity is Islam, Our identity is Prophet Muhammad (PeaceBe Upon Him) who himself loves to wear clean and beautiful clothes but in a certain limitations with modesty. Our identity is Almighty Allah (May he be glorified), who is beautiful and sent his messenger with beautiful religion of truth, Islam for our guidance.
