President Asif Ali Zardari has called for stepping up efforts to fully realize the potential of Free Trade Agreement with Sri Lanka.

The President said this during one on one meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart President Mahinda Rajapaksa followed by delegation level talks in Islamabad. He underscored the need for a currency swap agreement between the two countries and said it would provide opportunities to business houses in both the countries to actively explore and enhance business linkages. Briefing the media Presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said cooperation with special reference to trade and commercial ties besides regional and international issues were discussed during the meeting. President Zardari urged the business communities and Chambers of Commerce of the two countries to fully avail the huge trade and business potential the two countries offer in diverse fields including financial and banking sector science and technology defence agriculture tourism gems and Jewellery. The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa said his country attaches great importance to its strategic and special relations with Pakistan. He said bilateral trade and commercial ties should be further strengthened for the mutual benefit of the two countries. President Asif Ali Zardari also hosted banquet in honour of Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his delegation at AiwaneSadr Islamabad. Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek Federal Ministers AJKs President and Prime Minister Chairman Joint Chief of Staff General Khalid Shamim Wynne and services chiefs and the parliamentarians attended the banquet.
